Accelerant Detection K-9 Team

Roger and Stryker are a K-9 accelerant detection team. Roger is a Captain at North Spartanburg on B-Shift. Stryker is a black Labrador Retriever who is owned and trained by Captain Means. Stryker was given to Capt. Means by Mr. Johnny Whitmore of Woodruff, SC in June 2007. Capt. Means started training Stryker for accelerant detection in February 2008. After months of training Stryker was certified as an accelerant K-9 in October 2008 by the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA). Stryker gives a passive alert by sitting and pointing with his nose to an accelerant. Capt. Means and Stryker train daily and Stryker is awarded with food when he finds an accelerant which is how Stryker is fed every day. They assist fire departments, law enforcement, Spartanburg County Fire Investigation Team, and other surrounding teams. If you would like more information about Stryker you may contact Capt. Means at rmeans@nsafd.
